Gerald Lee Gross

Gerald Lee Gross, 71, of 32 Churchill Crest, a resident of Hillcrest Commons for four years, died Monday morning at Berkshire Medical Center.

Born in Cambridge on Sept. 3, 1933, son of William and Dorothy Barton Gross, he was a graduate of Cambridge High School.

In 1954, he graduated from Boston University with a bachelor of science degree in business management.

Mr. Gross made his career in retail and management, working for Giants Stores in North Adams, the former Adams Supermarkets and, most recently, at E&R Distributors in Keene, N.H. He retired in 1999.

He was an avid Boston Red Sox and New England Patriots fan and enjoyed bowling.

Mr. Gross leaves his wife, the former Adelaide R. "Babs" Phillips, whom he married Nov. 7, 1982.

Besides his wife, he leaves a son, William J. Gross of Hancock; three daughters, Linda A. Fenn of Pittsfield, Lori B. Guy of Williamstown and Pamela S. Ludwig of South Yarmouth; a brother, Burton Gross of Needham, and seven grandchildren.

FUNERAL NOTICE -- Gerald Lee Gross, who died Monday, Aug. 29, is remembered for his excellent management and personnel skills, both in employee relationships as well as being a loving husband, father and grandfather.

He leaves his grandchildren, Jennifer Fenn, Rachael Fenn, Caitlyn Fenn, Samuel Guy, Jeremy Guy, Zachary Gross and Britny Ludwig. A memorial service for Mr. Gross will be held Thursday, Sept. 1, at 5 p.m. at Congregation Beth Israel in North Adams with Rabbi Rachel Barenblat officiating.

A burial service will be held Friday, Sept. 2, at 11 a.m. in Lakeside Cemetery in Wakefield. There are no calling hours. In lieu of flowers, contributions in memory of Mr. Gross may be made to the American Stroke Association, 20 Speen St., Framingham, MA 01701. DERY FUNERAL HOME is in charge of arrangements.
