Bernice Carlotta Merrill, 98, formerly of Wahconah Heights, died Sunday at University Commons Nursing Home in Worcester after a long illness.
She had resided in Worcester for 10 years.
Born in Lee on June 15, 1907, daughter of William J. and Florence Meluis Kelsey, she attended schools there and was a longtime resident of the Berkshires.
Mrs. Merrill was employed by the former Eaton Paper Co. as a shipping clerk, retiring in 1972 after 22 years of service.
Her husband, Robert F. Merrill, whom she married Feb. 1, 1936, in Lee, died in 1945.
Her longtime companion, Joseph P. Carty, died Sept. 20, 1986.
FUNERAL NOTICE -- Bernice Carlotta Merrill, 98, was called safely home on Aug. 21, 2005.
A calling hour will be held tomorrow, Aug. 24, from 10 to 11 at DEVANNY-CONDRON FUNERAL HOME, followed by a service at the funeral home at 11. Burial will be in Fairmont Cemetery in Lee.
She also leaves her longtime friends, Arthur, Dick and John "Jack" Colwell. In lieu of flowers, if friends desire, memorial donations may be made to the Jimmy Fund in care of the funeral home.
