Francis "Chico" Hayes, 47, of 771 Tyler St. died Saturday at Berkshire Medical Center after a long illness.
Born in Pittsfield on Jan. 12, 1958, son of the late Francis and Margaret Collins Hayes, he was a 1976 graduate of Pittsfield High School and attended Berkshire Community College.
A self-employed carpenter, Mr. Hayes also worked for Jay McDermott for 20 years. He retired in 2003.
He was a communicant of St. Charles' Church and enjoyed fishing, art, music, reading and writing poetry.
He leaves his former wife, the former Robin Tower; a son, Michael Grady Hayes of North Adams; a daughter, Rebecca Ann Hayes of North Adams; six brothers, Patrick P. Hayes of Pittsfield; William L. Hayes of Lenox, James M. Hayes of Pittsfield, Robert P. Hayes of East Greenbush, N.Y., and John P. and Joseph P. Hayes, both of Pittsfield; six sisters, Helen E. Barbiero of Long Island, Brigid M. Rufo of Lake Villa, Ill., and Margaret B. Percy, Mary A. Quinto, Elizabeth M. Flynn and Ann M. Hayes, all of Pittsfield, and a granddaughter.
FUNERAL NOTICE -- Francis "Chico" Hayes died in Pittsfield on Saturday, Aug. 20. Loving and dedicated father, brother and friend. The funeral will be tomorrow, Tuesday, Aug. 23, at 9 from DWYER FUNERAL HOME, with a Liturgy of Christian Burial at 10 at St. Charles' Church celebrated by the Rev. Peter A. Gregory, pastor.
Burial will follow in St. Joseph's Cemetery. Calling hours will be today, Aug. 22, from 4 to 7. Mr. Hayes also leaves several aunts and uncles, including the Rev. Charles V. Hayes, OFM, and many nieces and nephews. He was a loving grandfather to Emma Elizabeth Banister.
