Franklyn P. Dolphin

Franklyn P. Dolphin, 96, of 255 Lebanon Ave. died Monday at Springside of Pittsfield Health Care Facility, where he had resided since March 2004.

A longtime resident of Dalton, he and his wife, Dorothy, operated the former Dolphin Nursing Home for 35 years. They sold it in 1974.

Born in Pittsfield on Feb. 7, 1909, son of Frank J. and Julia Condon Dolphin, he was a 1929 graduate of St. Joseph's High School.

He also graduated from the New England Academy of Anatomy and Embalming.

Mr. Dolphin was employed by GE as a coppersmith, retiring in 1973 with 34 years of service. He also worked as a funeral director at Dwyer Funeral Home for many years.

He was a communicant of St. Joseph's Church and a member of the GE Quarter Century and Pensioners' clubs.

He was a former chairman of the Skyline District of Boys Scouts and of the Dalton March of Dimes and a past president of the Dalton Little League. He enjoyed spending winters in Hallandale, Fla.

His wife, the former Dorothy A. Renaud, died in 1992.

He leaves a son, Michael W. Dolphin of Pittsfield; a daughter, Judith Dolphin Ryan of Stockbridge; six grandchildren, and three great-grandchildren.

FUNERAL NOTICE -- Franklyn P. Dolphin died in Pittsfield on Monday, Aug. 8, 2005. Loving grandfather to Thomas F. Ryan, Thymothy P. Ryan, Michael P. Ryan and Matthew S. Ryan, Todd M. Dolphin and Tracey Dolphin.

The funeral will be Friday, Aug. 12, at 8:15 from DWYER FUNERAL HOME, with a Liturgy of Christian Burial at 9 at St. Joseph's Church celebrated by the Rev. Michael Shershanovich, pastor. Burial will follow in St. Joseph's Cemetery.

Calling hours will be tomorrow, Thursday, Aug. 11, from 4 to 7 at the funeral home. If friends desire, memorial donations may be made to St. Joseph Central Catholic High School in care of the funeral home.
