Ralph D. Conroy

Ralph D. Conroy, 65, of 28 Revilla Terrace, died yesterday at home after an apparent heart attack.

Born in Pittsfield on Nov. 18, 1939, son of Francis M. and Cecelia Alvarez Conroy, he attended Pine Cobble School, and was a 1959 graduate of Cardinal Farley Military Academy in Rhinecliff, N.Y. He attended Spring Hill College in Mobile, Ala.

He was an Army veteran of the Counter Intelligence Division, and was employed by the Massachusetts Department of Employment and Training, retiring in June 2002. Prior to that, he was a reporter for The Eagle before becoming a freelance writer in 1972.

An accomplished writer, Mr. Conroy was a regular contributor to Guns & Amo magazine, and was also published in Reader's Digest and Field & Stream magazines.

He and his wife, the former Jeanne Shea, would have celebrated their 41st wedding anniversary on Dec. 21.

Together they enjoyed traveling to and participating in many world and national championship shotgun events.

He was a member of the Lee Sportsman Club.

Besides his wife, he leaves a son, Michael Conroy of Colorado Springs, Colo.; a daughter, Karen Fusini of Windsor; a brother, Frank Conroy of Essex, Conn.; and three grandchildren.

FUNERAL NOTICE -- The funeral for Ralph D. Conroy will be on Tuesday at 11:15 a.m. from DEVANNY-CONDRON FUNERAL HOME with a Liturgy of Christian Burial at noon at St. Teresa's Church.

Burial will follow in St. Joseph's Cemetery. Calling hours will be on Monday from 4 to 7 p.m. at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, if friends desire, donations in his memory may be made to the American Heart Association in care of the funeral home.

He is also survived by his grandchildren, Sarah and Blaze Fusini, and Molly Conroy; his son-in-law, Peter Fusini; a brother-in-law, William Shea Jr.; two sisters-in-law, Kathi D'Amato and Barbara Velez; a mother-in-law, Jean Shea of Pittsfield, nieces and a nephew.

He was predeceased by a grandson Zachary Fusini.
