Roy William Kerr

Roy William Kerr, 92, of Epoch Assisted Living at Melbourne, 140 Melbourne Road, a former resident of North Adams, died Monday at Hillcrest Commons.

Born in Adams on March 9, 1913, son of George and Mary Edna Bouvin Kerr, he attended schools there.

Mr. Kerr was employed by Windsor (Conn.) Manufacturing Corp., retiring in 1976. In his youth, he was employed by the former Berkshire Fine Spinning Associates in Adams.

He then worked at GE as an apprentice toolmaker, transferred to the former Sprague Electric Co. in North Adams, then transferred to the former James Hunter Machine Co., where he worked for 20 years. He also worked for several years at Cornish Wire Co. in Williamstown.

He moved to Enfield, Conn., and worked 13 years at Amco Corp. in South Windsor, Conn. Following his retirement, he was a school bus driver for Courtesy Bus Co. in Lanesborough for 10 years.

He was a communicant of St. Anthony's Church in North Adams and a member of the Northern Berkshire Retired Men's Club and the Stamford (Vt.) Valley Golf Club.

He also was an accomplished bowler.

His wife, the former Lena Lucille Rancatti, whom he married July 14, 1934, in St. Anthony' Church, died Jan. 3, 2000.

He leaves a daughter, Janice Calkins of Clifton Park, N.Y.; a son, William Roy Kerr of Peru; six grandchildren, and seven great-grandchildren.

FUNERAL NOTICE -- Services for Roy William Kerr will be Thursday at 9:45 at FLYNN & DAGNOLI-MONTAGNA HOME for FUNERALS, Central Chapels, 74 Marshall St., North Adams, followed by a Liturgy of Christian Burial at 10:30 at St. Anthony of Padua Church celebrated by the Rev. Daniel O'Hear, pastor.

Burial will follow in the family plot in Southview Cemetery. Calling hours will be today, Wednesday, from 6 to 8 at the funeral home. Memorial donations are suggested for the charity of the donor's choice through the funeral home.

He was predeceased by two sisters, Nora Scalise and Evelyn Gingras. After Mr. Kerr's retirement, he enjoyed his position as a school bus driver providing safe transportation for the children of Berkshire County.
