PITTSFIELD, Mass. — Julia May Johnson, 83, formerly of Rose Manor, died Saturday evening, July 23, 2005, at Mount Greylock Extended Care Facility, where she had resided since December 2002.
Born in Dalton on Aug. 14, 1921, daughter of John M. and Gertrude Robinson Caesar, she attended schools there and was a graduate of the former Pittsfield Vocational School.
She also attended the former Berkshire Business College and was a 1967 graduate of the former St. Luke's Hospital School of Nursing.
A licensed practical nurse, Mrs. Johnson was employed by Berkshire Medical Center for more than 13 years, retiring in 1985. Earlier, she had worked at St. Luke's for two years.
She was a member of St. Stephen's Episcopal Church and enjoyed reading and sewing. She also was a member of the Micmuk-Massoya Tribe.
Her former husband, Robert J. Johnson, died March 26, 1990.
She leaves three sons, Robert J. Johnson, John E. Johnson Sr. and Jeffrey L. Johnson, all of Pittsfield; a daughter, Julia M. "Judy" Johnson-Smith of Pittsfield; a brother, Franklin F. Caesar of New Haven, Conn.; a sister, Marion Bethel of Belmont, N.H.; nine grandchildren, and seven great-grandchildren. Another son, James F. Johnson, died in 1989.
FUNERAL NOTICE — Services for Mrs. Johnson will be private, with burial in Pittsfield Cemetery. There will be no calling hours.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to St. Stephen's Episcopal Church or to the American Diabetes Association, both in care of DERY FUNERAL HOME, 54 Bradford St., Pittsfield, MA 01201.
