Aldo R. Manfredo

Aldo R. Manfredo, 80, of 39 Rose Terrace, died yesterday at Berkshire Medical Center.

Born in Pittsfield on Oct. 5, 1924, son of John and Josephine Montrucchio Manfredo, he graduated from Pittsfield High School in 1942 and from Clarkson University in Potsdam, N.Y., in 1950 with a bachelor's degree in electrical engineering.

He was a World War II veteran of the Army Air Corps and of the Signal Corps, where he attained the rank of sergeant. He served from 1943 to 1946 and received several medals.

Mr. Manfredo graduated from the drafting apprentice course at GE. He worked in Philadelphia, Burlington, Vt., and Lynn GE plants as a test engineer, and in 1951, returned to Pittsfield as a power transformer product design engineer.

In 1960, he transferred to GE Ordnance as an inertial guidance engineer and worked on the Polaris, Poseidon and Trident guidance equipment. He retired Feb. 2, 1987, with 43 years of service.

He had several articles published in trade and professional journals. He was a registered professional engineer in Massachusetts and a member of the former Pittsfield Engineers' Association, Tau Beta Pi and Eta Kappa Nu. He was a life member of the Institute of Electrical and Electronic Engineers and the GE Quarter Century Club.

Mr. Manfredo was a communicant of Mount Carmel Church.

He enjoyed gardening, tennis, walking and woodworking.

He and his wife, the former Anita M. Eberwein, would have celebrated their 52nd wedding anniversary Sept. 12. They were married in Sacred Heart Church.

Besides his wife, he leaves two sons, John C. Manfredo of Round Rock, Texas, and Robert J. Manfredo of New Orleans; two daughters, Jean M. McNamara of Haymarket, Va., and Carol A. Manfredo of Dalton; seven grandchildren, and three great-grandchildren.

FUNERAL NOTICE -- Services for Aldo R. Manfredo will be Wednesday, July 20, 2005, at 9 from FLYNN & DAGNOLI-BENCIVENGA FUNERAL HOME, 5 Elm St. A Liturgy of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 at Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church by the Rev. Geoffrey J. Deeker, CSS, pastor.
A private inurnment service will take place at the convenience of the family at St. Michael the Archangel Mausoleum at St. Joseph's Cemetery. Calling hours at the funeral home will be Tuesday, July 19, from 4 to 7. Mount Carmel Church Ladies' Guild will meet at the funeral home Tuesday at 6 p.m. for a prayer service.

He is survived by seven grandchildren, Matthew, Emily and Molly Massaro, Brieyn and Patrick McNamara, and Grayson and Tamra Manfredo, and by three great-grandchildren, Quinn, Trey and Joseph. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital in care of the funeral home.
