Sidney Smith Scott Jr., 88, of 600 Main St. died Monday at Berkshire Medical Center in Pittsfield.
Born in Dalton on March 27, 1917, son of Sidney S. Scott Sr. and Florence Graw Scott, he was a graduate of the former Dalton High School.
A Navy veteran of World War II, he enlisted in 1940 and served aboard the USS Conner, USS Stringham, USS Lindenwold and USS Wiltsie.
He received several medals, and was discharged in 1946 as a shipfitter first class.
Mr. Scott was employed by Crane & Co. for many years, retiring in 1981 as a head millwright.
He was a longtime member of Dalton American Legion Post 155 and Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 9566.
He enjoyed fishing, puzzles, reading, baseball and walking.
His first wife, the former Leona Walker, died Dec. 1, 1972.
His wife, the former Mary G. Eng, died April 24, 1992.
He leaves a stepson, Norman E. Walker Jr. of Holland, Mich.; three stepdaughters, Jacquelyn L. Crippa of Pittsfield, Patricia H. Alfonso of Oldsmar, Fla., and Debby Walker of Cheshire; 13 step-grandchildren; 17 step-great-grandchildren, and two step-great-great-grandchildren.
FUNERAL NOTICE -- Services for Sidney S. Scott Jr., 88, who died July 11, 2005, will be Friday at 11 at the DERY-FOLEY FUNERAL HOME, 890 East Main St., Dalton, with the Rev. William D. Furey officiating.
Burial will follow in Ashuelot Cemetery with full military honors. Calling hours will be today, Thursday, from 7 to 9 at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Dalton Ambulance in care of the funeral home.
