Shirley Mae Marquis, 79, of Providence Court, 379 East St., died Saturday evening at North Adams Regional Hospital.
Born in Greenfield on Jan. 2, 1926, daughter of Florence Barnes Pease, she moved to Pittsfield as a child and graduated from Pittsfield High School.
Mrs. Marquis was employed as a nurses' aide for the Berkshire Visiting Nurse Association, retiring several years ago. Earlier, she worked as a teachers' assistant for the Pittsfield Public Schools.
She was a communicant of the former Notre Dame Church and a member of the Fraternal Order of Eagles.
She enjoyed reading, camping, gardening, cooking, bowling, sewing and crocheting.
Her husband, Marcel Marquis, whom she married June 1, 1946, died July 20, 1998.
She leaves two daughters, Michele Marquis of Adams and Melanie Marquis of St. Petersburg, Fla.; a son, Brian Marquis of Lanesborough; three grandchildren, and a great-grandchild.
FUNERAL NOTICE -- The funeral for Shirley Mae Marquis will be Thursday, July 14, at 9 from AUGE-PACIOREK-SIMMONS FUNERAL HOME, 13 Hoosac St., Adams, followed by a Liturgy of Christian Burial at 10 at Notre Dame des Sept Douleurs Church, Adams, celebrated by the Rev. Daniel J. Boyle, pastor of the Catholic Parishes of Adams.
Burial will follow in St. Joseph's Cemetery, Pittsfield. Calling hours will be tomorrow, July 13, from 5 to 7 at the funeral home. Memorial donations may be made to Brightside for Families and Children through the funeral home.
