Beatrice May Savage, 91, of 85 West Housatonic St. died yesterday morning at Berkshire Medical Center.
Born in Pittsfield on July 11, 1913, at her West Housatonic home, daughter of John T. and Edith Major Goodrich, she was in the first class to graduate from Pittsfield High School.
Primarily a homemaker, Mrs. Savage was employed by the former Eaton Paper Co. for 18 years.
For the last 20 years, she was a professional baby sitter, whom everyone called "Grandma Bea," and took care of the sick and elderly.
She taught rug braiding for several years at the Pittsfield Women's Club, where she was a member.
She was a communicant of St. Joseph's Church and a member of the Sisters of St. Joseph Rosary Society.
She was also a member of the Pittsfield and Dalton senior clubs.
Her husband, Frank W. Savage, died Feb. 3, 1973.
She leaves a son, Richard P. Savage of Richmond, and two grandchildren.
FUNERAL NOTICE -- Services for Beatrice M. Savage, who died July 5, 2005, will be Thursday at 8:15 a.m. from the DERY FUNERAL HOME, 54 Bradford St., followed by a Liturgy of Christian Burial at 9 a.m. at St. Joseph's Church, celebrated by the Rev. Michael Shershanovich, pastor.
Burial will follow in St. Joseph's Cemetery. Calling hours will be today, Wednesday, from 6 to 8 at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Elder Services of Berkshire County in care of the funeral home.
She is lovingly survived by her two grandchildren, Rick and Jessica Savage, and by her daughter-in-law, Kathy Savage. She was predeceased by a brother, Howard Goodrich.
