Robert E. Kushi, 84, of 20 Worthen St. died yesterday at home.
Born in Pittsfield on Aug. 15, 1920, son of Joseph and Elizabeth Cronin Kushi, he was a 1938 graduate of Pittsfield High School.
He was an Army veteran of World War II.
Mr. Kushi was employed by Mold Master Inc. He was also a cab driver for the former Yellow Cab and then Rainbow Taxi.
He retired in 2002 with more than 50 years of service at both jobs.
He was a communicant of St. Charles' Church.
He and his wife, the former Jeanette C. Gromacki, were married Nov. 10, 1945, in Holy Family Church.
Besides his wife, he leaves a son, Gary R. Kushi, at home; three daughters, Jean Rufo and Judith Mullett, both of Pittsfield, and Carol E. Kushi at home, seven grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.
FUNERAL NOTICE -- Robert E. Kushi, 84, died Tuesday at home. He leaves a son-in-law, Scott Mullett, and was the beloved grandfather to Lori, Leslie and Darren Rufo, Dina Steinman, Eric J. Sprague, Neil Sprague Jr., and Debra Phillips, and loving great-grandfather to Robert Steinman, Tiffanie Tomashek, Marisa Sprague, Maddie Sprague, Dakota Phillips, Shane Steinman, Jett Steinman, and Nicholas and Ashley Rufo.
Funeral services will be Friday, July 8, at 9 a.m. from the DWYER FUNERAL HOME, 776 North St., with a Liturgy of Christian Burial at 10 a.m.in St. Charles' Church, celebrated by the Rev. Peter A. Gregory, pastor. Burial will follow in St. Joseph's Cemetery. Calling hours will be Thursday, July 7, from 4 to 7 p.m. at the funeral home.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to HospiceCare in the Berkshires or the Arthritis Foundation of Western Massachusetts in care of the funeral home. Mr. Kushi was loved and was very devoted to his wife and family and will be deeply missed by them.
