Frederick ‘Fritz' H. Jones Jr.

Frederick ‘Fritz' H. Jones Jr., 80, of 1429 S. W. Eagleglen Place, Stuart, Fla., formerly of Whitesboro, N.Y. and Pittsfield, died yesterday at his home.

Born in Pittsfield on Feb. 4, 1925, son of Frederick H. Jones Sr. and Margaret Coughlin Jones, he was a graduate of Pittsfield High School and a 1949 graduate of St. Michael's College. From 1949 to 1950, he attended graduate school at the University of Arizona.

A machine gunner, he served in the Army during World War II in the 776th AA Battalion and the 106th Infantry Division in Europe.

Mr. Jones was employed by General Electric Company for 35 years, serving in Pittsfield from 1950 to 1961. He was then transferred to GE Operations in Utica, N.Y., where he became manager of employee communications and community relations. He retired in 1955.

While there, he was a member of the GE Quarter Century Club and the Elfun Society. He served on the board of directors of the Utica Chamber of Commerce; the Greater Utica United Way, serving as public relations director for two annual fund-raising campaigns; the Board of Civil Musical Society, as well as two terms as president of the Board of the Mohawk Valley Advertising Club, for which he was named Man of the Year in 1975.

He was a communicant of St. Anne's Church in Whitesboro, and served a term as president of the Holy Name Society.

While in Pittsfield, he was a communicant of St. Mark Church. Upon moving to the state of Florida in 1998, he was a communicant of St. Andrew's Catholic Church in Stuart.

He was a member of the Knights of Columbus and was an active member of its bingo committee. He was also active in organizing golf programs at the Florida Club.

He leaves his wife, the former Grace Tierney, whom he married June 21, 1947 at St. Mark Church in Pittsfield.

Besides his wife, he leaves two sons, Christopher Jones of Pittsfield and David Jones of Kennebunk, Maine; two daughters, Pamela J. Williams of Deansboro, N.Y. and Margaret Delchamps of Batavia, Ill.; two brothers, John Jones and Peter Jones both of Pittsfield; four grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. Another son, Peter, died in infancy.

FUNERAL NOTICE -- Services for Frederick ‘Fritz' Holden Jones, Jr., who died Wednesday, June 29, 2005, will be held on Saturday, July 2, at 8:15 a.m. from
DERY FUNERAL HOME, 54 Bradford St., Pittsfield, with a Liturgy of Christian Burial at 9 a.m., at St. Mark Church, Pittsfield, celebrated by the Rev. John C. Salatino, pastor.

Burial will follow in St. Joseph's Cemetery, Pittsfield. Calling hours will be Friday from 4 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, contributions in memory of Mr. Jones may be made to either Hospice, 1201 S.E. Indian St., Stuart, FL 34997, or to St. Vincent de Paul Society, 6550 S.E. Federal Highway, Stuart, FL 34997.

Mr. Jones is also survived by his daughter-in-law, Beth (Mrs. David); his sons-in-law, Dave Williams and Steve Delchamps; his four grandchildren, Claire, Owen and Ellen Jones, and Krina Homrighaus and her husband, Jason, and their two children, Joseph and Jennifer; and his sisters-in-law, Mary (Mrs. John) and Jean (Mrs. Peter).
