Gertrude M. Cudworth

Gertrude M. Cudworth, 99, formerly of 319 North St., died yesterday at Curtis Manor, where she had resided for two years.

Born in Easthampton on July 1, 1905, daughter of John and Bertha Neidel Major, she was a 1922 graduate of Easthampton High School and a 1925 graduate of the former North Adams Normal School, now the Massachusetts College of Liberal Arts.

She also attended Smith College. She moved to Dalton in 1926.

Mrs. Cudworth taught Grades 1 through 8 at Worthington School from 1925 to1926. Following her marriage in 1926, she worked as the bookkeeper for her husband's business, Dalton Auto Repair, retiring in 1969.

She enjoyed collecting antiques and her cats.

Her husband, Charles L. Cudworth Sr., whom she married Dec. 8, 1926, died July 26, 1989.

She leaves two sons, Charles L. Cudworth Jr. of Worthington and John A. Cudworth of Dalton, five grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.

FUNERAL NOTICE -- Services for Gertrude M. Cudworth will be private and at a later date. Following cremation burial will be in the Ashuelot Cemetery. There will be no calling hours.

She was predeceased by a brother, George Major, in 1970. If friends desire, donations are suggested to the American Heart Association in care of the BARTLETT-WELLINGTON FUNERAL HOME, 525 Main St., Dalton, MA 01226.
