Thomas W. Armstrong

Thomas W. Armstrong, 64, of 50 Kelly Drive died yesterday at Berkshire Medical Center.

Born in Bennington, Vt., on Feb. 1, 1941, son of Herbert and Arvilla DouglassArmstrong, he was educated in New York schools and graduated from high school in Johnsburg, N.Y., in 1959.

He earned an associate degree through the General Electric Apprentice Program at the University of Massachusetts. He lived in Richmond for 23 years, moving to Pittsfield seven years ago.

An engineer, Mr. Armstrong was employed by GE from 1959 until retiring in 1996. He was a member of the Quarter Century and Pensioners' clubs and the GE Elfuns.

He was active in YMCA racquetball, the Berkshire County ATV Association, the Richmond Council on Aging and the Prostate Support Group.

He was a member of the Lake Onota Preservation Association and enjoyed kayaking and riding motorcycles.

He and his wife, the former Beverly A. Dupuis, would have celebrated their 42nd wedding anniversary Aug. 3. They were married in St. Charles' Church.

Besides his wife, he leaves a son, Timothy Armstrong of Pittsfield; a daughter, Lynda Race of Pittsfield; a brother, Richard Armstrong of Johnsburg, N.Y., and three grandchildren.

FUNERAL NOTICE -- Services for Thomas W. Armstrong, who passed away on Friday, June 24, 2005, from a long, hard battle with brain cancer, will be conducted Monday, June 27, at 10 at DERY FUNERAL HOME by the Rev. Peter A. Gregory, pastor of St. Charles' Church.

Burial will follow in St. Joseph's Cemetery. Calling hours will be tomorrow, June 26, from 5 to 7 at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, contributions in memory of Mr. Armstrong may be made to the American Cancer Society, the American Diabetes Association or the National Multiple Sclerosis Society, all in care of the funeral home, 54 Bradford St., Pittsfield, 01201.

Mr. Armstrong, remembered as a devoted and loving husband and father who enjoyed helping people, also leaves a son-in-law, Gregory Race; a daughter-in-law, Patricia Armstrong, and his grandchildren, Sara, Amanda and Ashley Armstrong.
