Marshall Andrew Porter Sr.

Marshall Andrew Porter Sr., 81, formerly of Main Street, died yesterday morning at Hillcrest Commons, where he had resided since June 2003.

Born in Pittsfield on July 16, 1923, son of Andrew L. and Gertrude M. Lussier Porter, he was educated in local schools.

An Army veteran of World War II, he served from May 1943 to April 1946 as a medical technician with the 67th Field Hospital.

Mr. Porter was employed by Byron Weston Co. and later by Crane & Co., retiring in 1985 after 37 years of service.

He was a member of the VFW Post 9566 and the Benjamin F. Sullivan American Legion Post 15.

His former wife, Ann M. Cassidy Porter, died in June 1998.

He leaves a son, Marshall A. Porter Jr. of Pittsfield; two daughters, Margaret "Peg" Cullett of Wells, Maine, and Carol Ann Polidoro of Pittsfield; a brother, Richard L. Porter of Hinsdale, seven grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

FUNERAL NOTICE -- Services for Marshall Andrew Porter Sr., who died Thursday, June 16, are private.

There will be no public calling hours.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Dalton Fire Department in care of the DERY-FOLEY FUNERAL HOME, 890 East Main St., Dalton, MA 01226.
