Harry F. Soules Sr.

Harry F. Soules Sr., 79, of 10 Mobile Terrace died yesterday morning at Berkshire Medical Center in Pittsfield.

Born in New Lebanon, N.Y., on Feb. 9, 1926, son of Harry H. and Bertha Bailey Soules, he was educated there.

An Army veteran of World War II, he served with Company I, 309th Infantry, 78th Division as a squad leader. He served in central Europe, Rhineland, Ardennes, and was wounded during the Battle of the Bulge.

Mr. Soules was employed as a machinist at GE for 25 years, retiring in 1987. He was also a bartender for many years at the former Seecum Brook Club.

He was a member and past commander of the Dalton VFW Post 9566, the Dalton American Legion Post 155, and a member of the GE Quarter Century and Pensioners' clubs.

He enjoyed fishing, hunting, horse racing and watching sports, and was an avid Red Sox fan.

His wife, the former Delores Spencer, died Nov. 1, 1992.

He leaves two sons, Harry F. Soules Jr. of Pittsfield and Michael J. Soules of Dalton; a daughter, Kelly Dewey of Dalton; two stepsons, Jeffrey Reynolds of Pittsfield and Gary Lewis of Springfield; a stepdaughter, Deborah Velez of Pittsfield; four brothers, Carl Soules of Lee, James Soules of Sheffield and Norman Soules and Paul Soules, both of Housatonic; a sister, Rose Amorighi of Sharon, Conn., 18 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren.

FUNERAL NOTICE -- Harry F. Soules Sr., age 79, was called safely home on June 15, 2005. The funeral will be Friday at 11 a.m. at the DEVANNY-CONDRON FUNERAL HOME with the Rev. William Furey, pastor of Berkshire Union Chapel, officiating.

Burial will follow in St. Joseph's Cemetery. Calling hours will be today, Thursday, from 4 to 7 p.m. at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, if friends desire, memorial donations may be made to the American Lung Association or the Eleanor Sonsini Animal Shelter in care of the funeral home.

He is also survived by his faithful dog, Crown Royal. He was predeceased by his companion of 18 years, Martha Potash.
