John Sannicks Smith

John Sannicks Smith, 79, of Rolling Hills died Sunday at Berkshire Medical Center in Pittsfield after a struggle with cancer.
Born in Peterboro, N.Y., on March 8, 1926, son of Harold and Sadie Robbins Smith, he was a graduate of New York University.
He also attended classes at Jersey City State College and Seton Hall University.
An Army veteran of World War II, he served with the 899th Engineer Aviation Company for two years.
Mr. Smith was employed by the U.S. Postal Service in Pittsfield, retiring in 1988 as superintendent of fleet operations.
He had also worked in New Jersey, and Albany, N.Y. Previously, he had been in a seminary for a brief time.
His wife of 52 years, the former Sara J. Watkins, died in 2003.
He leaves two sons, Craig Smith of Hancock and John Smith of Brooklyn, N.Y.; a daughter, Jill Smith of Stoughton, and a grandchild.
FUNERAL NOTICE -- Friends may call at the ROCHE FUNERAL HOME, 120 Main St., Friday, June 10, from 5 to 8 p.m. Funeral services for John S. Smith will be Saturday at 11 a.m. at St. Helena's Chapel, 221 New Lenox Road, Lenox.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the John Smith Memorial Fund, c/o St. Helena's Chapel, or to the American Cancer Society in care of the funeral home. He leaves his grandchild, Jordan.
His 52-year marriage remains an inspiration to his children; we can only hope to approximate their happiness in our own lives. To his family, he will always be one who gave his unconditional and unwavering love and support.
DAD....I love and miss you so much. I am sorry if I did not live up to your wishes for me. I am just now seeing this on-line. You were the kindest man I ever knew. Love you.
