Paul Silberman

Paul Silberman, 89, of 235 Walker St., Kimball Farms, died at home Sunday, June 5.
Born in Baltimore on Aug. 25, 1915, son of Harry and Sadie Bernstein Silberman, he grew up in Brooklyn, N.Y., and attended schools there.
He relocated part-time to the Berkshires in the 1960s and, after retirement, divided his time between Lenox and his home in Bradenton, Fla.
While operating his own independent insurance company, he lived in Brooklyn and, later, in Manhattan.
Mr. Silberman enjoyed playing golf and was an amateur sculptor. He was a volunteer at the Lenox Library and a volunteer for literacy programs in Florida.
He was a regular Tanglewood patron and enjoyed numerous cultural activities in the Berkshires.
He and his wife, the former Miriam Gootnic, were married March 17, 1954. She died in 1998.
He leaves a daughter, Clair Cabiles of Great Barrington, and two grandsons.
FUNERAL NOTICE -- A graveside service for Paul Silberman will be held at Mountain View Cemetery on Housatonic Street, Lenox, tomorrow, June 8, at 1. Mr. Silberman was a lifelong advocate of civil rights and justice for all people.
His two grandsons, Jonas and Daniel Cabiles of Lake Tahoe, Nev., and Lenox, were the joys of his life. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Lenox Library Association or to the Students at Tanglewood Music Center, both in care of ROCHE FUNERAL HOME, 120 Main St., Lenox, MA 01240.
