Gloria M. Ryan, 79, formerly of Velma Avenue, died Sunday, June 5, at Hillcrest Commons.
Born in New York City on April 5, 1926, daughter of Louis J. Perachi Sr. and Dorris Otto Perachi, she grew up in Cheshire and attended schools there and in Adams.
Mrs. Ryan was employed by the former New England Telephone Co. as a telephone operator, retiring in 1985 from its successor, AT&T, after 26 years of service.
A longtime communicant of St. Teresa's Church, she was a member of its folk choir and Rosary Sodality.
She was also a member of the Telephone Pioneers of America.
She and her husband, Thomas J. Ryan, would have celebrated their 57th wedding anniversary Aug. 14. They were married at Mount Carmel Church.
Besides her husband, she leaves two daughters, Mary Margaret Ayling of Stephentown, N.Y., and Teresa Ann Stracuzzi of Pittsfield; two sons, Thomas J. Ryan of Pittsfield and John P. Ryan of Hopkinton; a brother, Paul E. Perachi of Pittsfield; six grandchildren, and three great-grandchildren.
FUNERAL NOTICE -- Gloria M. Ryan, age 79, died June 5, 2005, surrounded by her family. The funeral will be tomorrow, June 8, at 11 at St. Teresa's Church celebrated by the Rev. Peter A. Gregory, pastor of St. Charles' Church.
Burial will follow in St. Joseph's Cemetery. In honoring her wishes, there will be no calling hours.
She is lovingly survived by her grandchildren, Peter Garivaltis, Jennifer Clark, Brigid Ahearn, Rebecca Stracuzzi, Jack Ryan and Patrick Ryan, and her great-grandchildren, Katelyn and Ethan Clark, and Sophie Garivaltis; two sons-in-law, James Ayling and Michael Stracuzzi, and two daughters-in-law, Gail P. Ryan and Mary M. Ryan. Another brother, Louis J. Perachi Jr., died in September 1998. DEVANNY-CONDRON FUNERAL HOME has been entrusted with the arrangements.
