Thomas J. Hogan

Thomas J. Hogan, 78, of Kenlee Gardens in South Hadley died Thursday at Holyoke Medical Center.

Born in Holyoke on May 11, 1927, son of Patrick and Mary Harrington Hogan of County Kerry, Ireland, he attended the former Sacred Heart Grammar School and graduated from Sacred Heart High School in Holyoke.

He was the brother of Mary Calabrese of Dalton.

Mr. Hogan retired from Ashland Chemicals, I.C.S. Division in 1992, after 42 years in the chemical Industry.

He was actively involved in the Passionist Retreat Program at Our Lady of Sorrows Monastery in West Springfield until its closing, and was a longtime member of the Cursillo Movement in the Diocese of Springfield.

He was also very active in various ministries at St. Theresa's Church in South Hadley.

He was a life member of Holyoke Lodge of Elks 902.

He leaves his wife of 55 years, the former Kathleen McCarthy.

Besides his wife and sister, he leaves three daughters, Kathleen Hogan-Friguglietti and Anne Bray of Westfield, and Marie Hogan of Holyoke, and eight grandchildren. He was predeceased by a son, Patrick M. Hogan, who died in 2004.

FUNERAL NOTICE -- Services for Thomas J. Hogan will be held Monday, June 6, 2005, at 8:45 a.m. from BARRY J. FARRELL FUNERAL HOME, 2049 Northampton St., Holyoke, followed by a Mass in St. Theresa's Church in South Hadley at 10. Burial will be in St. Jerome Cemetery, Holyoke. Calling hours will be Sunday from 4 to 8.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions are requested for: Pioneer Valley Special Olympics, 380 Union St., West Springfield, MA 01089 or St. Theresa Church Building Fund, Parkview Drive, South Hadley, MA 01075.

He leaves two sons-in-law, Frank Friguglietti and Terry Bray; a daughter-in-law, Judy (Machnik) Hogan of West Springfield; a brother-in-law, Anthony "Tony" Calabrese; and his beloved grandchildren, Pfc. Daniel H. Bray, stationed at Fort Campbell, Ky., Jonathan and Lauren Bray, and Theresa, Leigh and Brian Friguglietti, all of Westfield, Stephanie and Patrick Hogan of West Springfield.
