Lawrence Paul King

Lawrence Paul King, 72, of 42 Churchill Crest and Naples, Fla., died Wednesday at home in Pittsfield.

Born in Concord, N.H., on March 19, 1931, son of Edward J. and Kathleen Rushlow King, he was a 1950 graduate of St. John's School there and a graduate of the University of New Hampshire, where he played hockey.

He later played for Sacre Coeur, a junior amateur hockey club.

A Navy veteran of the Korean War, he served from 1952 to 1956.

Mr. King was employed by Berkshire Life Insurance Co. as an insurance underwriter, serving as director of underwriting from 1983 to 1996. He worked for United Life and Accident Insurance in Concord, N.H., until 1966, when he transferred to Trans American Corp. in Philadelphia. From 1969 to 1983, he was employed by Union Mutual in Portland, Maine, where he was an executive in life and disability insurance.

He was a member of the Life Underwriters and the New England Underwriters associations. He was a volunteer for Berkshire United Way and Central Berkshire Habitat for Humanity.

A golfer, he was a member of Wahconah Country Club and the Countryside Country Club in Naples.

He and his wife, the former Joan Bourgault, were married Oct. 10, 1959.

Besides his wife, he leaves two sons, Michael E. King of Baltimore and Joseph A. King of Framingham; two daughters, Susan K. Strizzi of Williamstown and Jacqueline King Gattuso of Pittsfield; a brother, Martin King of North Dartmouth; a sister, Virginia K. Sullivan of Concord, N.H., and two grandsons.

FUNERAL NOTICE -- Services for Lawrence Paul King, who died Wednesday, June 1, will be Monday, June 6, at 9:30 at Sacred Heart Church in Concord, with burial to follow in Calvary Cemetery there.

Calling hours will be Sunday, June 5, from 2 to 4 at Waters Funeral Home, 50 South Main St., Concord. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Friends of Renal Dialysis or to St. Agnes' School Library Fund, both in care of DERY FUNERAL HOME, 54 Bradford St., which is in charge of local arrangements.

He is also survived by his son-in-law, Dennis Strizzi, and his two grandsons, Anthony L. Gattuso and Michael D. Strizzi.
