Thomas J. Harmon, 76, of 135 Birch Grove Drive died yesterday at Berkshire Medical Center.
Born in Pittsfield on Jan. 18, 1929, son of James A. and Elsa M. Slattery Harmon, he was a 1946 graduate of Pittsfield High School.
A Navy veteran of World War II, he served on the USS Toledo.
Mr. Harmon was employed by GE in the power transformer department, retiring in 1988 as a group leader with more than 38 years of service.
He was a communicant of Sacred Heart Church, where he was a Eucharistic minister and a member of the Holy Name Society.
He was also a longtime member of the IUE, serving as a shop steward, and of the Knights of Columbus.
He enjoyed reading, boating and playing pitch.
He and his wife, the former Elizabeth O'Brien, were married Aug. 1, 1953.
Besides his wife, he leaves a daughter, Beth Harmon of Holyoke; two sons, David T. Harmon of Pittsfield and Paul J. Harmon of Mendon; a brother, John A. Harmon of Richmond; a sister, Theresa Browning of Orlando, Fla., and nine grandchildren.
FUNERAL NOTICE -- Thomas J. Harmon died in Pittsfield on Wednesday, June 1. Beloved grandfather to Thomas, Michael, Ryan and Shawn Harmon, Kaitlyn and Nicholas Foley, Patrick and Matthew Foley, and Tony Terdina.
He was also a loving father-in-law to Kathy Harmon, Dennis Foley and Carla Harmon; a loving brother-in-law to Jack and Pat O'Brien, David and Joanne O'Brien, and Bill Frasier, and uncle to many nieces and nephews. He enjoyed being with his family.
The funeral will be Saturday, June 4, at 8 from DWYER FUNERAL HOME, with a Liturgy of Christian Burial at 9 at Sacred Heart Church celebrated by the Rev. James K. Joyce, pastor. Burial will follow in St. Joseph's Cemetery. Calling hours will be tomorrow, Friday, June 3, from 4 to 7 at the funeral home.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the American Lung Association or to Sacred Heart Church, both in care of the funeral home. He was predeceased by a sister, Elsa Harmon Frasier, and a brother, Timothy James Harmon.
