Martha L. Perry, 97, of 560 Pomeroy Ave. died Friday at Berkshire Medical Center.
Born in Newark, N.Y., on Feb. 5, 1908, daughter of Archie G. and Carrie Welcher Leroux, she was a 1925 graduate of Newark High School and a 1929 graduate of Cornell University.
She had resided in Perryville, Galway, Beaver Falls and Holley, N.Y., and moved to Pittsfield in 1989.
Primarily a homemaker, Mrs. Perry was a teacher in Perryville until her marriage.
She was active in a number of organizations, including the New York State Federation of Home Bureaus, which helped women promote higher standards in homes and communities.
The group established a scholarship in her name in 1975 at Rochester (N.Y.) Institute of Technology in honor of her more than 27 years of active membership. She also was a life member of the Amite Chapter of Order of Eastern Star, and a life member of the Cobblestone Society in Orleans County, N.Y.
She enjoyed winters in Ormond Beach, Fla., where she was associated with the Seventh-day Baptist Church in nearby Daytona Beach.
Her husband, Alfred Langworthy Perry, whom she married in 1934, died in 1987.
She leaves a son, Fred W. Perry of Pittsfield. Another son, Douglas Perry, died in 1958 and her daughter, Marcia L. Perry, on June 6, 2004.
FUNERAL NOTICE -- No local services for Martha Perry, who died May 27, 2005, are planned. A graveside service will precede burial of her ashes in Union Cemetery in Verona, N.Y., in July.
Memorial donations may be made to either HospiceCare in the Berkshires or Elder Services of Berkshire County care of WELLINGTON FUNERAL HOME, 220 East St., Pittsfield, MA 01201. She also leaves several nieces and nephews.
