Elizabeth Mary Mason

Elizabeth Mary Mason, 90, a resident of 110 Grange Hall Road since 1942, died Thursday afternoon at home.

Born in Pittsfield on Feb. 18, 1915, daughter of John S. and Mary Flynn Shortell, she was a 1932 graduate of St. Joseph's High School.

Mrs. Mason was a homemaker.

She was a communicant of St. Agnes' Church and a member of the Dalton American Legion Ladies' Auxiliary.

For many years, she swam every day in the Dalton CRA pool.

She also enjoyed baseball, round dancing and playing golf.

Her husband, Francis N. Mason, whom she married July 10, 1933, in St. Charles' Church, died Dec. 17, 1990.

She leaves four sons, David F. Mason of Inverness, Fla., John A. Mason of Dalton, Richard R. Mason of Melbourne, Fla. and Daniel R. Mason of Pittsfield; five daughters, Ann Wagner of Dalton, Sally Mason of Pittsfield, Kathleen Bramer of Dalton, Mary Polidoro of Palm Bay, Fla., and Beth Mason of Dalton, with whom she resided; 21 grandchildren, and 34 great-grandchildren. She was predeceased by two sons, Michael C. Mason, in 1983, and C. Russell Mason, in 1996.

FUNERAL NOTICE -- Services for Elizabeth Mary Mason, who died Thursday, May 19, 2005, will be Monday, May 23, at 9:15 from DERY-FOLEY FUNERAL HOME, with a Liturgy of Christian Burial at 10 at St. Agnes' Church celebrated by the Rev. Christopher A. Malatesta, pastor.

Burial will follow in Ashuelot Cemetery, Dalton. Calling hours will be Sunday from 4 to 7 at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Dalton Ambulance and Rescue, St. Agnes' Church or HospiceCare in the Berkshires, all in care of the funeral home, 890 East Main St., Dalton, MA 01226.

Mrs. Mason also leaves her son-in-law, Don Wagner, and two daughters-in-law, Jennifer Mason of Pittsfield and Marcia Mason of Florida. She was predeceased by a brother, John E. Shortell. Her greatest enjoyment was spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
