Josephine Marie Shaw, 81, of 547 South St. died Saturday at home after a long illness.
Born in Troy Grove, Ill., on Dec. 11, 1923, daughter of Harry L. and Edna Nelson Foster, she was a graduate of Mendota (Ill.) High School.
She worked for many years as a bookkeeper and cashier at establishments in California and Connecticut. She also lived in Rhode Island, retiring to Florida in 1988.
She moved to New England in the mid-1990s to be close to her daughters.
She enjoyed baseball and animals.
Her husband, Lewis David Shaw Sr., whom she married March 1, 1946, died in 1995.
She leaves two daughters, Leslie Hazelton, with whom she resided, and Jacquelyn Marie Christiance of Plantsville, Conn.; two sons, L. David Shaw Jr. of Orlando, Fla., and Thomas J. Shaw of West Melbourne, Fla.; a sister, Orla Jewel Genens of Lake Geneva, Wis..; 11 grandchildren, and 11 great-grandchildren.
FUNERAL NOTICE -- A Memorial Service for Josephine M. Shaw will be conducted Saturday, June 18, at 11 at Dalton Congregational Church by the Rev. Robert R. Kyte, pastor. There will be no calling hours.
Following cremation, burial will be at a later date in Beaverdale Cemetery in New Haven, Conn., when her grandson Staff Sgt. Michael Shaw returns home from service in the Middle East. Following the memorial service, the family will greet friends in the church hall.
Among survivors are her daughters-in-law, Dawn Chapman and Mary Shaw; her sons-in-law, John Christiance and Siward Hazelton, and her grandchildren, Michael Shaw, Colleen Burrows, Aaron Shaw, Eric Hazelton, Brian Hazelton, Peter Hazelton, Jeffery Christiance, Nicholas Shaw, Samantha Smith, Paul Shaw and Helaina Shaw. Her brothers Wyman, James and Paul Foster, and sisters Helen Eldridge and Leota Halterman predeceased her.
