Rudolph W. Potak

Rudolph W. Potak, 84, of 78 Harryel St., died Wednesday at Berkshire Medical Center.
Born in Amsterdam, N.Y., on March 23, 1921, son of John and Elizabeth Hajney Potak, he attended schools there and was a 1940 graduate of Amsterdam High School.
He also graduated from Mount Barry College in Rome, Ga., with a bachelor's degree in drafting.
He served in the Army during World War II, first infantry, and served in Europe.
Mr. Potak was employed by GE as a draftsman in the power transformer and ordinance departments, retiring in 1982 after 37 years of service.
He enjoyed camping, hiking, skiing, canoeing, sailing, swimming, fishing, backpacking, gardening traveling, sightseeing and country fairs.
He had built his own boats and canoes, and spent the majority of his free time in the Adirondack and White mountains. In his earlier years, he was an artist in oils and pastels.
His wife, the former Doris C. Davis, whom he married Sept. 1, 1945, died May 31, 2004.
He leaves two sons, Russell Potak of Cheshire and Kenneth Potak of Glens Falls, N.Y.; a daughter, Darlene Cohen of Florence, six grandchildren and one great-grandson.
FUNERAL HOME -- Graveside services for Rudolph Potak will be Saturday at 10 at Pittsfield Cemetery. Friends who wish to attend can meet inside the front gate. Calling hours will be today, Friday, from 4 to 6 at the WELLINGTON FUNERAL HOME.
In lieu of flowers, donations in his memory can be made to Pleasant Valley Sanctuary in Lenox. Survivors include his grandchildren, Sarah, David, Karen, Cathy, Laura and Bryan, and great-grandson, Marlon.
