Anthony J. Marchetti

Anthony J. Marchetti, 80, of 37 Lillian St., died yesterday at Hillcrest Commons, where he had resided since April.

Born in Pittsfield on June 2, 1924, son of Luigi and Josephine Tesoniero Marchetti, he attended Pittsfield schools.

A World War II Army Air Forces veteran, he served with the 988th Military Police in Germany.

Mr. Marchetti was employed by GE for 40 years, retiring in 1989.

He was a communicant of Mount Carmel Church and a member of its Holy Name Society. He also was a member of the church's Wednesday and Sunday night bocce leagues and of the Italian-American Club and its Monday and Thursday night leagues.

He was a member of Itam Lodge 564 and Father William Contino Italian-American War Veterans Post 75.

He enjoyed playing golf, traveling, gardening, hunting and fishing.

He and his wife, the former Rose M. Venturini, celebrated their 58th wedding anniversary April 12. They were married at Mount Carmel Church.

Besides his wife, he leaves two brothers, Domenico Marchetti of Pittsfield and Philip Marchetti of Bristol, Conn.

FUNERAL NOTICE -- Services for Anthony J. Marchetti, who died May 13, 2005, will be Monday, May 16, at 9 from FLYNN & DAGNOLI-BENCIVENGA FUNERAL HOME, 5 Elm St. A Liturgy of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 at Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church by the Rev. Geoffrey J. Deeker, CSS, pastor.

Burial will follow in the family plot at St. Joseph's Cemetery, Pittsfield. Calling hours will be tomorrow, May 15, from 4 to 7. Members of the Mount Carmel Church Holy Name Society and Ladies' Guild will meet at 6:30 p.m. for a prayer service. Italian-American War Veterans Post 75 will meet at 6 p.m. for a Veterans Ritual Service.

Mr. Marchetti is survived by several nieces and nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews. He was predeceased by a sister, Rose Tesoniero. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church in care of the funeral home.
