Anthony R. Silva, 92, of 51 Edward Ave. died Monday evening at Berkshire Medical Center.
Born in Cural, Portugal, on Aug. 19, 1912, son of Germano and Rosaria Rodriguez Silva, he came to the United States in 1929 and settled in Newark, N.J., where he completed his education.
Mr. Silva was employed by GE as an assembler in the power transformer department, retiring in 1974 after 35 years of service. Earlier, he had worked as an assembler at the former Wagner Corp. in Newark for 10 years.
He was a communicant of Sacred Heart Church and a member of its Rosary Society.
He was a member of the GE Quarter Century and Pensioners' clubs, and the GE Athletic Association.
He had been a member of the former Portugese-American Club. He enjoyed walking.
He and his wife, the former Grace A. Albuquerque, were married Sept. 18, 1943, in St. Mary's Church.
Besides his wife, he leaves a son, David E. Silva of Pittsfield; a daughter, Irene D. Press of Mahopac, N.Y.; a brother, Joseph Silva of Whiting, N.J.; a sister, Hilda Cabral of Cranston, R.I., and four grandchildren.
FUNERAL NOTICE -- Services for Anthony R. Silva, who died Monday, May 9, 2005, will be Friday, May 13, at 10:15 from DERY FUNERAL HOME, with a Liturgy of Christian Burial celebrated at 11 at Sacred Heart Church by the Rev. James K. Joyce, pastor.
Burial will follow in St. Joseph's Cemetery. Calling hours at the funeral home will be held Thursday from 4 to 7. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Providence Care Center of Lenox in care of the funeral home, 54 Bradford St.
He leaves his four grandchildren, Ryan Silva, Cristina Silva, Rebecca Cohen and Elizabeth Press.
