Fred Gardieff, 82, of 415 East Housatonic St. died yesterday morning at Berkshire Medical Center in Pittsfield.
Born in Pittsfield on July 4, 1922, son of Walter and Mary Mosel Gardieff, he attended schools in Hinsdale.
He was an Army veteran of World War II.
A truck driver, Mr. Gardieff was employed by Petricca Construction Co., retiring in 1980 after 20 years of service.
He also had worked for several other contractors and had hauled cross-country.
He was a member of the Dalton VFW.
He enjoyed animals, especially his dogs.
He and his wife, the former Dina Fontana Costi, were married July 25, 2003.
Besides his wife, he leaves a brother, Walter Gardieff of the state of Florida, and a sister, Lydia Gardieff of Stamford, Conn.
FUNERAL NOTICE -- Calling hours and funeral services for Fred Gardieff, who died Tuesday, May 10, 2005, will be private. Burial will be in Maple Street Cemetery, Hinsdale.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Eleanor Sonsini Municipal Animal Shelter in care of DERY-FOLEY FUNERAL HOME, 890 Main St., Dalton, MA 01226.
He will be missed by his dog, Inky, and his cat, Sneaky.
