Martha Josefine Lunde

Martha Josefine Lunde, 102, formerly of Reuter Avenue, died Friday at St. Leonard's Rehabilitation Center in Centerville, Ohio.

Born near Stavanger, Norway, on June 19, 1902, while her parents, Eilert L. and Karen Eek Lunde, were visiting relatives, the family moved from Brooklyn, N.Y., in 1906 to Gale Hill Road in the New Britain area of New Lebanon, N.Y. She attended a one-room schoolhouse in New Britain.

She later returned to Brooklyn, where she apprenticed as a milliner. After her parents sold their farm in 1926, she moved with them to Pittsfield, where she was employed by the former Gray's Millinery Shop. She then worked as an aide at the former St. Luke's Hospital.

Ms. Lunde was employed by GE during World War II. After the war, she remained as a comptometer operator in the transformer department until retiring in 1967.

She moved to Hartford, Conn., in 1974 to be with her sister, Lilly Lunde Fuller. In 1977, they moved to Farmington, N.M., then to Durango, Colo. After the death of her sister, she moved to Dayton, Ohio, in 1991 to be near cousins.

She enjoyed visiting relatives and friends in Norway and made several trips there after her retirement.

She leaves nieces and nephews.

FUNERAL NOTICE -- There will be no calling hours for Martha Lunde, who died April 22, 2005, and burial will be private in the Cemetery of the Evergreens, New Lebanon, N.Y. Arrangements were made by HALL & HIGGINS FUNERAL HOME, Stephentown, N.Y. She was predeceased by four brothers, Lloyd, Carsten, Otto and Harold, and by her sister, Lilly.

She leaves six nieces and nephews, Clark K. Lunde of Bloomington, Ind., Gail Lunde Dreas of Daphne, Ala., Kristin Lunde Gibbons of New Lebanon, David A. Lunde of Athens, Ga., and Paradise, Calif., Robert Fuller of Hazelhurst, Wis., and John K. Lunde of Orono, Maine.

She was predeceased by nephews Harold E., Peter J. and Donald I. Lunde and niece Karen Lunde Lamson. She is survived by her very good friends, Dan and Sue Thornton, and her cousin, Alice Leonard of Kettering, Ohio.
