Gerald "Jerry" Erb

Gerald "Jerry" Erb, 49, of 20646 Laurel Lock, Katy, Texas, a former Dalton resident, died Monday morning at home after a courageous battle with cancer.
Born in San Diego, Calif., on Nov. 5, 1955, son of Gerald P. and Elizabeth Bell Erb, he later moved to Dalton, where he attended Wahconah Regional High School and played on the baseball, basketball and football teams.
In 1977, he earned a bachelor's degree from the University of Massachusetts. While at UMass, he played Division I baseball and spent summers pitching for the Cape Cod Baseball League in Chatham. After graduation, Jerry spent two seasons with the Milwaukee Brewers.
In 1979, he and his wife moved to Houston, Texas.
Most recently, he was vice president of the paper division at Janco Food Services in Houston. His career also included professional positions in sales and purchasing for Hormel, Kimberly-Clark, and Erving Paper.
Mr. Erb is survived by his wife of 26 years, the former Carol Amirault, of Katy, whom he married in 1979.
Besides his wife and parents of Dalton, he leaves a daughter, Alica Ann Erb of Katy, Texas; two brothers, Kevin Erb of Los Angeles and John Erb of North Andover, and his grandmother, Laura Erb of Minot, N.D.
FUNERAL NOTICE -- A memorial service will be held today, April 23, 2005, at 10 at Epiphany of the Lord Catholic Church in Katy, Texas. His loving wife and 14-year-old daughter are planning a celebration of his life to be held in his hometown of Dalton, Mass.
The date, time and location will be announced in the near future. In lieu of the usual remembrances, please consider a donation to the Wahconah Regional High School Scholarship Fund, Wahconah Regional High School, Windsor Road, Dalton, MA 01226, in memory of Gerald "Jerry" Erb.
His sister, Lorene Erb Baccaro, precedes him in death.
