Matilda "Tillie" Farris, 94, of 176 Columbus Ave. died Tuesday evening at Berkshire Medical Center.
Born in Pittsfield on Feb. 5, 1911, daughter of Attalla and Mary Joseph Farris, she attended local schools.
Ms. Farris had been manager of the family grocery store, Farris Market on Seymour Street.
When the store closed, it was converted into the Farris Beauty Salon, where she worked as a hairdresser for 30 years, retiring in 1998.
She was a communicant of St. Joseph's Church.
She was a charter member of the Daughters of Lebanon and a member of the Board of Cosmetology Hairdressers Association.
She leaves a brother, George F. Farris, and a sister, Florence E. Farris; she made her home with both of them.
FUNERAL NOTICE -- Matilda "Tillie" Farris, 94, died in Pittsfield on Tuesday, April 19, 2005. Beloved aunt to June Hashim McCloskey, Ellen Farris, Richard Shogry and Timothy Farris.
Funeral services will be held tomorrow, Friday, April 22, at 9:15 from DWYER FUNERAL HOME, 776 North St., with a liturgy of Christian Burial celebrated at 10 in St. Joseph's Church by the Rev. John Salatino, pastor of St. Mark's Church.
Burial will follow in St. Joseph's Cemetery. Calling hours will be today, April 21, from 4 to 7 at the funeral home. She also leaves several great-nieces and -nephews.
If friends desire, memorial donations may be made to HospiceCare in the Berkshires in care of the funeral home.
