Ralph D. Macarelli Sr., 85, formerly of Imperial Avenue, died Thursday at Hillcrest Commons after a brief illness.
He had resided at Providence Care Center in Lenox until his recent admission to Hillcrest.
Born in Catskill, N.Y., on March 20, 1920, son of Raphael and Philomena Venditto Macarelli, he was educated at St. Patrick's Academy there.
A Navy veteran of World War II, he served aboard the USS Langley and was stationed in Florida.
Mr. Macarelli was a car salesman for more than 30 years, working at area automobile dealerships.
He was a past communicant of St. Mary's Church in Cheshire.
He was a member of the Italian American Club and the Elk's Lodge.
He enjoyed horse racing, cards and gambling, as well as vacationing and dining out.
His wife, the former Margaret Stanton, whom he married June 1958, died Oct. 25, 2000.
He leaves two sons, Ralph D. Macarelli Jr. of Littleton, Colo., and Michael Macarelli of Sunrise, Fla.; a daughter, Eileen Bovee of Kingston, N.Y.; a stepson, Herbert Wise of Newton; a brother, Gerald Macarelli of Catskill; a sister, Mary Passella of Catskill, seven grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. Another daughter, Kathleen Brodhead, died Sept. 1, 1992.
FUNERAL NOTICE -- Ralph D. Macarelli Sr., 85, was called safely home April 14, 2005. A funeral service will be held Wednesday at 11 at DEVANNY-CONDRON FUNERAL HOME, with the Rev. David Raymond, pastor of St. Mary of the Assumption Church, officiating.
Calling hours will be Wednesday from 9:30 until 11. Burial will follow in Cheshire Cemetery. He was predeceased by two brothers and a sister, Michael and Edward Macarelli and Mary Galutch.
