Margaret M. Smith, 89, former longtime resident of Pittsfield, died yesterday morning at Kimball Farms Nursing Center in Lenox, where she lived for the past three years.
Born in Belleville, N.J., daughter of Harry and Mary Ellis Smith, she came to Pittsfield as a child and attended local schools and graduated from Pittsfield High School in 1932.
Ms. Smith was employed at General Electric for 45 years.
She retired on Dec. 31, 1979. She was a member of the GE Quarter Century and Pensioners' clubs.
While in Pittsfield she was a daily communicant of Sacred Heart Church.
FUNERAL NOTICE -- The funeral for Margaret M. Smith, age 89, who died April 15, 2005, will be on Monday, April 18, at 8:45 a.m. from DEVANNY-CONDRON FUNERAL HOME with a Liturgy of Christian Burial at 9:30 at Sacred Heart Church celebrated by the Rev. Christopher Malatesta, pastor of St. Agnes Church.
Burial will follow in St. Joseph's Cemetery. Calling hours will be tomorrow from 1 to 3 at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, if friends desire, donations in her memory may be made to the charity of one's choosing in care of the funeral home. Margaret was a most generous and loving aunt and will be remembered always.
She was predeceased by four brothers, Clem, Harry, Ellis and Paul Smith, and three sisters, Helen Smith, Martha Hall and Doris Fields.
