Beatrice M. Miller, 89, formerly of 633 Lakeway Drive, died Monday at Hillcrest Commons, where she had resided for 2 1/2 years.
Born in Pittsfield on June 2, 1915, daughter of Russell and May Bonney Hinkley, she attended local schools.
A homemaker, Mrs. Miller had been a foster mother, beginning in 1968. She was honored as an Outstanding Foster Parent by the state Department of Social Services in 1986, by which time she had fostered more than 50 children and had adopted several.
She was especially recognized for her work with adolescents.
She was a member of First United Methodist Church.
Her husband, Stephen D. Miller, whom she married April 28, 1933, died June 19, 1979.
She leaves five sons, the Rev. Douglas Miller of Lords Valley, Pa., Dennis Miller of Dalton, Donald Warfield of Housatonic, Richard Miller of Pittsfield and Paul Gilbert of Agawam; two daughters, Susan Powers of Pittsfield and Marie Valenti of Suffolk, Va.; two brothers, Harold Hinkley of Pittsfield and Robert Hinkley of the state of Florida; a sister, Marion Fugman of Pittsfield, 22 grandchildren, and 22 great-grandchildren. Another son, David B. Miller, is deceased.
FUNERAL NOTICE -- A memorial service for Beatrice M. Miller will be conducted Saturday, May 7, at 10 at First United Methodist Church by her son, the Rev. Dr. Douglas Miller, and the Rev. Dr. Roger Davis.
Burial will be in Pittsfield Cemetery. There will be no calling hours. Among survivors are her daughters-in-law, Priscilla Miller, Jeanne Miller, Ginnie Miller, Kristine Warfield and Kathy Gilbert; a son-in-law, Joseph Valenti; her grandchildren Dawn, Beth, Lisa, Jill, Stephen, David, Darin, Doug, Wendy, Bruce, Sara, Nora, Keri, Morgan, Noelle, Scott, Tristan, Dalton, Joey, Katie, Danny and Andy; great-grandchildren Doug, Daniel, Shaun, Ashley, Kyle, Emma, Olivia, Annie Mae, Audrianna, Dennis, Doug, Julissa, Vanessa, Mary, Darin, Austen, Giovanna, Dante, Reagan Mae, Kaylie, Jacob and Brianna, several nieces and nephews, and all the children she fostered and cared for in her lifetime.
She was predeceased by two brothers, Charles and Raymond Hinkley. WELLINGTON FUNERAL HOME is in charge of arrangements.
