Gertrude Brier, 82, of 28 Ivy Lane died Monday at home.
Born in Pittsfield on May 6, 1922, daughter of Michael M. and Rose Samuel Arrowitz, she was a graduate of Pittsfield High School.
Mrs. Brier was employed as a bookkeeper at Berkshire Armored Car for many years, retiring in 1995. She had earlier worked at the former office of Morgan-Grampian Publishing and the former Eaton Paper Co., and was owner and operator of the former Pittshire & Co. store, which sold religious articles.
She was a member of Temple Anshe Amunim and a reading coach at Allendale School.
She enjoyed tending her vegetable garden at the community gardens at Canoe Meadows and her flower gardens at her home. She also enjoyed knitting mittens.
She leaves a daughter, Nancy Gagnon of Peru, and two grandchildren.
FUNERAL NOTICE -- A graveside service for Gertrude Brier, age 82, who died April 11, 2005, will be conducted today, April 13, at 1 at Pittsfield Cemetery by Rabbi Emeritus Harold Salzmann and Barbara Cohen, spiritual leader of Temple Anshe Amunim.
Friends are asked to meet inside the cemetery gate at 12:45. Memorial donations may be made to the Temple Anshe Amunim Capital Campaign Fund or the Allendale School PTO Library Fund.
She also is survived by her granddaughter, Meghan Eve Gillespie, and her husband, Michael; her grandson, Emery Gagnon, and his wife, Susan Lightfoot-Gagnon, and her son-in-law, Richard Gagnon. The family will receive friends at the family home, 7 Andes Road, Peru, on Wednesday and Thursday from 3 until 7 p.m.
A memorial prayer service will be held Wednesday at 4. DEVANNY-CONDRON FUNERAL HOME is in charge of arrangements.
