John H. LaVigne

John H. LaVigne, 84, of 30 Abbott Road, Ellington, Conn., formerly of 36 Dalton Ave., died yesterday at Kimberly Hall South Building in Windsor, Conn.

Born in Worcester on Feb. 11, 1921, son of Henry W. and Yvonne Barousa LaVigne, he attended schools there.

Mr. LaVigne had been employed by GE in the power transformer department, retiring in 1983 after 34 years of service.

He moved to Ellington this year.

He was a former communicant of Notre Dame Church.

He was a member of the GE Quarter Century and Pensioners' clubs. He enjoyed fishing, gardening and picking blueberries. He was an avid Red Sox fan.

He and his wife, the former Sylvia D .Valery, were married Nov. 25, 1950, in Our Lady of Lourdes Church in East Millbury.

Besides his wife, he leaves a son, Joseph M. LaVigne of Tucson, Ariz.; a daughter, Dori C. Harrington of Ellington, Conn., with whom he made his home; two sisters, Helen Ray and Florence Ray, both of Pittsfield, and three grandchildren.

FUNERAL NOTICE -- Services for John H. LaVigne will take place Saturday, April 9, 2005, at 8:15 from the FLYNN & DAGNOLI-BENCIVENGA FUNERAL HOME, 5 Elm St. A Liturgy of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 9 at St. Joseph's Church with the Rev. Michael Shershanovich, pastor, officiating.

Burial will follow in the family plot in St. Joseph's Cemetery. Survivors include a son-in-law, Douglas Harrington of Ellington, and three grandchildren, Garrett Harrington and Jonathan and Tyler LaVigne.

He was predeceased by two brothers, George and Edward LaVigne, and three sisters, Mary LaVigne, Adele Kamienski and Yvonne Reeks. There will be no calling hours. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the American Lung Association in care of the funeral home.
