Marie Griffin Carchedi, 95, of Los Gatos, Calif., formerly of Pittsfield, died Saturday while visiting her son, Barry E. Griffin Sr. of Northern Colony Court, Katy, Texas.
Born in Mount Morris, N.Y., on March 31, 1910, daughter of Samuel and Mary Gore Gill, she was educated there.
She moved to Pittsfield in the 1940s and to California in the late 1950s.
Mrs. Carchedi was first employed as a secretary at GE. She and her first husband, Charles Griffin, had owned and operated Griffin Office Supply. While in California, she had worked at San Jose Hospital as an office manager.
She also worked each morning at Good Samaritan Hospital, preparing the chapel for Mass. She received an award for being the oldest working resident in Los Gatos, retiring at age 91.
She was a communicant of St. Mary's Church in Los Gatos.
Her first husband died in the early 1950s.
Her second husband, Joseph Carchedi, died in the early 1990s.
Besides her son, she leaves another son, John Griffin of Pittsfield; two daughters, Joanne Trova of Pittsfield and Charlene Grizey of Auburn, Calif.; 17 grandchildren; 29 great-grandchildren, and five great-great-grandchildren. Another daughter, Ruth Burke, died in 2004.
FUNERAL NOTICE -- A Liturgy of Christian Burial for Marie Griffin Carchedi, who died April 2, 2005, will be Friday at 11 at St. Mary's Church in Lee.
Burial will follow in St. Mary's Cemetery. Visiting hours will be Friday from 9:45 until 10:30 at KELLY FUNERAL HOME.
Friends wishing may make donations to the Barry Griffin Jr. Scholarship Fund in care of the funeral home, 3 Main St., Lee, MA 01238, in honor of her grandson, Barry Griffin Jr., who died in 1981.
