Scott David Zarek, 28, of 1400 Village Blvd., West Palm Beach, Fla., formerly of Pittsfield, died Sunday in Westwood.
Born in Pittsfield on Nov. 14, 1976, son of Jeffrey A. and Ellyn S. Horn Zarek of Wayland, he was born Scott D. LaRoche and was adopted in 1982. He was educated in schools in Pittsfield, Watertown, Waltham and Wayland, where he graduated from Wayland High School in 1995.
He also graduated from Albertus Magnus College in New Haven, Conn., where he received a Presidential Scholarship and was a member of the honors program. He had lived in Wayland for 17 years before moving to West Palm Beach last July.
At the time of his death, Mr. Zarek was employed by Mutual Service Corp. in West Palm Beach. He also had worked in a variety of computer-related positions, including four years at Televista in Marlboro.
He enjoyed reading, politics and friendly debate. He also enjoyed playing chess, music, computers, golf and watching sports.
He had recently attended a Red Sox spring training game. He also was a movie buff.
Besides his parents, he leaves a brother, Bradley J. Zarek of Jupiter, Fla., a sister, Mary Ellyn Zarek of Brighton; his maternal grandmother, Jeanette E. Ford Horn of Pittsfield, and his paternal grandparents, Walter M. and Laura E. "Edie" Girard Zarek of Cheshire. He also leaves his birth father, David LaRoche; a brother, Jared LaRoche and a sister, Grace LaRoche, all of California.
FUNERAL NOTICE -- Scott David Zarek, 28, died in Westwood on Sunday, April 3, 2005. Services will be held Friday, April 8, at DWYER FUNERAL HOME, 776 North St., with a Liturgy of Christian Burial celebrated at 11 at St. Mary of the Assumption Church in Cheshire by the Rev. David Raymond, pastor.
Burial will follow in Maple Street Cemetery in Adams. Calling hours will be tomorrow, April 7, from 4 to 7 at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Albertus Magnus College, Office of Institutional Advancement, 700 Prospect St., New Haven, CT 06511.
He was predeceased by his grandparents, William F. Horn, and Laurin and Elizabeth "Betty" Geerholt LaRoche, all of Pittsfield. Scott maintained a 3.8 grade-point average in college and was a frequent dean's list student. He was a devoted son, grandson and brother.
