John N. Handy

John N. Handy, 65, of 68 White St., Lunenburg, died yesterday at home after a long illness.

Born in Pittsfield on Sept. 4, 1939, son of John and Evelyn Rabideau Handy, he was a 1957 graduate of Pittsfield High School.

A Navy veteran, he served for two years, including time aboard the USS Monrovia in the Mediterranean.

Mr. Handy was employed as a draftsman and designer by GE for 17 years in the power transformer department until transferring in 1981 to the Fitchburg plant, from which he retired when it closed in 2000.

He was a communicant of St. Bernard's Church in Fitchburg.

He was a member of the GE Quarter Century Club and enjoyed fishing, hunting, and gardening.

He and his wife, the former Barbara A. Cozzolino, were married Oct. 7, 1967, at All Souls' Church.

Besides his wife, he leaves a son, Christopher J. Handy of Gardner; two daughters, Karen M. Handy of Leominster and Heather L. Handy of Carbondale, Colo., and four grandchildren.

FUNERAL NOTICE -- The funeral for John N. Handy, who died April 5, 2005, will be Friday, April 8, from BRANDON FUNERAL HOME, 305 Wanoosnoc Road, Fitchburg, with a Mass at 10 in St. Bernard's Church, 240 Water St. Calling hours will be tomorrow, April 7, from 5 to 8 at the funeral home.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to UMass Memorial Foundation/ Pancreatic Cancer Research Fund, 1 Lincoln Square, 15 Belmont St., Worcester, MA 01605, or to the charity of one's choice through the funeral home.

He leaves his son-in-law, Harley Stroh of Carbondale; two brothers-in-law, Albert Cheevers of Westfield and Richard Peach of Springfield, and four grandchildren, Rebecca, Nathan, Jessica and Emily.

He was predeceased by two sisters, Joan Cheevers and Jean Peach. Most of all, he was cherished by his family.
