Merna Lytle

March 25, 2005

Merna Lytle, 51, of 127 Memorial Drive died Saturday afternoon at Berkshire Medical Center.

Born in Queens, N.Y., on Nov. 17, 1953, daughter of Emanuel Lytle Sr. and Boleyn Coleman Lytle, she graduated from high school on Long Island and attended City College in New York.

At the time of her death, Ms. Lytle was an assistant teacher in the Title I Program at Conte Community School.

She also had worked at Reid Middle and Morningside Community schools, and had been a teacher in the after-school program at the Christian Center and at the Salvation Army. She had previously worked at Wal-Mart.

She had recently converted to Islam. She was a former member of the Salvation Army.

She leaves five sons, Naphtali J.T. Lytle, Imus N.J. Lytle and Ishmael Z.J. Lytle, all of Pittsfield, and Netselengie J.T. Lytle and Balenglie I.J. Lytle, both of Dalton; three daughters, Ron'na J.Q. Lytle, Izinna B.J. Lytle and Tienae I.J. Lytle, all of Pittsfield; three brothers, Emanuel Lytle Jr. of Queens, Nathaniel Lytle of Kennesaw, Ga., and William Hudson of Holyoke; a sister, Sunni Ramsey of Queens, and four grandchildren.

FUNERAL NOTICE -- Services for Merna Lytle, who died Saturday, March 25, 2005, will be conducted Thursday, March 31, at 11 at Second Congregational Church by the Rev. Leonard Comithier, a former pastor.

Cremation will follow. There will be no calling hours. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made for the benefit of her children to Ron'na Lytle, in care of Pittsfield Cooperative Bank, 70 South St., Pittsfield, MA 01201. DERY FUNERAL HOME is in charge of arrangements.

She leaves four granddaughters, Breanna, Dalail, Debora and Kiara. A sister, Debora A. Powell, died in 1990.
