Peggy H. Sottile, 74, of 7 Cypress Lane died Saturday morning at Mount Greylock Extended Care Facility, where she had resided for three months.
Born in the St. George section of Staten Island, N.Y., on July 7, 1930, daughter of Gene H. Head Sr. and Evelyn Berry Head, she was a 1948 graduate of the former Williams High School in Stockbridge.
She also graduated from the former Berkshire Business College, and took courses at the American Institute of Banking and the National Trust School at Northwestern University.
Mrs. Sottile was employed as a secretary and administrative assistant at the Pittsfield Cemetery for 11 years, retiring in 1999. Earlier, she was an assistant trust officer, secretary and assistant to the vice president of the former Pittsfield National Bank for many years. From 1965 to 1966, she was personnel director of REN Electronics in South Hadley.
Her husband, Anthony W. Sottile Sr., died in August 1981.
She leaves two daughters, Gayle M. Ferris-Warner of Georgetown, Ky., and Wendy D. Apple of Pittsfield; a brother, Gene H. Head Jr. of Staten Island; two grandsons, and a great-grandson.
FUNERAL NOTICE -- Peggy H. Sottile, longtime assistant trust officer and secretary of the former Pittsfield National Bank, died Saturday, March 26, 2005. Beloved grandmother to Mark and Andrew Apple and loving great-grandmother to Jonathan Apple, as well as a loving aunt to several nieces and nephews.
Graveside services will be held at a later date in Westhampton Cemetery. There will be no calling hours at DWYER FUNERAL HOME, which is in charge of arrangements.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Berkshire County division of the American Cancer Society.
