Leila Bona, 89, of Roaring Brook Road died Tuesday afternoon at Kimball Farms Nursing Care Center, where she had resided since September 2004.
Born in Pittsfield on Feb. 18, 1916, daughter of Luigi and Josephine Barbero Merletto, she attended local schools, including Pittsfield High School.
Mrs. Bona was employed as a cook at Berkshire Place in Pittsfield from 1974 until her retirement in 1995. Prior to that, she was a cook at the former Stockbridge School, later DeSisto School, for 26 years.
She was a communicant of St. Ann's Church.
Her husband, Lawrence M. Bona, whom she married June 3, 1935, died May 25, 1974.
She leaves a daughter, Arline Callan of Lenox; a daughter-in-law, Ann Marie Bona of Lenox, with whom she resided; a sister, Velma Lefkowitz of Murray, Utah; 13 grandchildren; 27 great-grandchildren, and a great-great-grandchild. Her son, Leonard Bona, died Jan. 30, 2003.
FUNERAL NOTICE -- A memorial Mass celebrating the life of Mrs. Leila Bona, who died March 22, 2005, will take place at a later date. She also is survived by her son-in-law, James Callan of Lenox.
She was predeceased by a brother, Arthur Merletto, and a sister, Rose Alba Soldato. ROCHE FUNERAL HOME in Lenox is in charge of arrangements.
