John C. "Butch" Procopio Jr.

John C. "Butch" Procopio Jr., 63, of 176 Columbus Ave., Berkshiretown Apartments, died Monday at Hillcrest Commons, where he was admitted this month.
Born in Pittsfield on July 10, 1941, son of Angelina F. Pignone Procopio Becker of Pittsfield and the late John C. Procopio Sr., he was a 1959 graduate of Pittsfield High School.
He served in the Navy Seabees for two years.
Mr. Procopio was employed as a bartender at the Sonesta Hotel in Hartford, Conn., and had worked at several restaurants while residing in Concord, Calif.
He returned to Pittsfield in 1999.
An avid Nascar fan, he owned a race car and competed on tracks in California.
He enjoyed playing cards, sports and was an accomplished golfer.
Besides his mother, he leaves two sisters, his twin, JoAnn F. Stechmann of Lenox, and Louise A. Procopio of West Melbourne, Fla.
FUNERAL NOTICE -- Services for John C. "Butch" Procopio Jr., who died March 14, 2005, will be held Saturday, March 19, at 8 from FLYNN & DAGNOLI-BENCIVENGA FUNERAL HOME, 5 Elm St. A Liturgy of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 9 at Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church by the Rev. Geoffrey J. Deeker, CSS, pastor, officiating.
Burial will follow in the family plot at St. Joseph's Cemetery. Calling hours will be Friday, March 18, from 4 to 7 at the funeral home. John lived and valued a Christian life and he enjoyed the presence of his family, friends and furry dog companion, Maggie. He enjoyed playing cards, all sports, and building and racing cars.
He is also survived by a niece, several nephews, grandnieces and grandnephews. He was predeceased by a brother, Salvatore J. "Sal" Procopio. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to HospiceCare in the Berkshires in care of the funeral home.
