Viola Helen Read, 86, of Walker Street died Monday morning at home.
Born in Pittsfield on April 6, 1918, daughter of John A. and Catherine Samolonis Baronas, she was a 1936 graduate of Pittsfield High School.
She made her home in Lenox Dale for most of her marriage.
A homemaker, Mrs. Read enjoyed sewing, reading and baking
Her husband, Fred A. Read, whom she married July 4, 1939, died May 11, 1992.
She leaves a daughter, Judith A. Decker of Lenox Dale; two sons, Fred R. Read of Lenox Dale and John F. Read of Etters, Pa., nine grandchildren, and seven great-grandchildren.
FUNERAL NOTICE -- A private graveside service for Viola Helen Read will be conducted in Pittsfield Cemetery by the Rev. Eric Dupee, pastor of United Methodist Church of Lenox. There will be no calling hours.
Memorial donations may be made to Shriner's Hospital in care of ROCHE FUNERAL HOME, 120 Main St., Lenox, MA 01240. Her main enjoyment in life was spending as much time as possible with her family.
She also is survived by her loving grandchildren, Daniel R. and Michael R. Decker and Robert E. Decker Jr., Martha L. Read, James E. Read, Sarah H. Read, Elizabeth M. Read, Valerie A. Read and Jennifer Read, and her beloved great-grandchildren, Shannon, Rebecca, Nicole, Julia, Kristin, Michael and Megan.
She was predeceased by two sisters, Mary A. Boeglin and Ann C. Kelly.
