Sister Barbara Glendon

Sister Barbara Glendon, 64, died Friday in Hastings, N.Y.

Born in Pittsfield, daughter of William and Margaret Crowther Glendon, she graduated from the former Dalton High School, where she was co-captain of the basketball team and a county golf champion, and earned her bachelor's degree in 1961 from the College of New Rochelle, N.Y., which she attended on a full scholarship.

She received her master's degree in mathematics from Georgetown University in 1966 and her master's degree in political science from Columbia University in 1979.

She entered the Ursuline Sisters in 1961, professing her perpetual vows in March 1969 as Sister John Mary Vianney.

Sister Glendon worked in the areas of social justice and corporate social responsibility and wrote the book "Corporate Responsibility: Case Studies and Empowering Strategies." She was social responsibility coordinator for the Mercy Consolidated Asset Management Program from 1993 until 2001.

She had earlier been executive director of the Tri-State Coalition for Responsible Investment for nine years and, from 1980 to 1984, she worked for the Focus on Micronesia Coalition, an ecumenical organization based in New York City.

She first was a high school math teacher in Bethesda, Md., the Bronx, N.Y., and New Rochelle.

She leaves a brother, William Glendon of Dalton.

FUNERAL NOTICE -- The wake will be held at the Ursuline Province Center, 1338 North Ave., New Rochelle, today, March 15, from 3 to 8. The Mass of the Resurrection will be celebrated tomorrow, March 16, at 10 at Holy Family Chapel of the College of New Rochelle.

Interment at Gate of Heaven Cemetery in Valhalla, N.Y. Memorial donations may be made to the Ursuline Social Outreach, The Adult Learning Center, in care of Ursuline Provincialate, 323 East 198 St., Bronx, NY 10458.

She leaves her sister-in-law, Cindy Glendon; her niece and her husband, Darlene and Jesse Brown; three grandnieces, Ally, Abby and Amber, and her Ursuline Community.

She was predeceased by a brother, Father Lowell Glendon.
