Carol Anna Tower

Carol Anna Tower, 88, of Hillcrest Commons died yesterday morning at Berkshire Medical Center.

She was a former resident of 55 Norman Ave. and had resided at Hillcrest since 1999.

Born in Pittsfield on June 29, 1916, daughter of James R. and Irma Jolls Hendra, she was a 1936 graduate of Pittsfield High School. In 1940, she graduated cum laude from American International College in Springfield with a degree in chemistry.

Mrs. Tower was a self-employed real estate and property reporter for several newspapers and banking institutions from 1979 until 1997. Before her marriage in 1943, she had worked at GE as a lab technician for three years.

She was a member of the Lions Club of Pittsfield Women's Auxiliary and had served as a past president and secretary.

She enjoyed doing crossword puzzles, reading, knitting and crocheting.

Her husband, Cortland F. Tower, whom she married Jan. 9, 1943, died Aug. 16, 1979.

She leaves a daughter, Gail T. Kearns of Pittsfield; a son, Fred J. Tower of Colorado Springs, Colo.; two sisters, Claralou Schallies of Mentor, Ohio, and Olive Wechter of Pittsfield, four grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

FUNERAL NOTICE -- Private funeral services for Carol A. Tower will be held at the convenience of the family. There will be no calling hours. Following cremation, burial will be at a later date in Village Cemetery, West Stockbridge.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Alzheimer's Disease and Related Disorders in care of the funeral home. She is lovingly survived by her four grandchildren, Patrick M. Kearns, Shari L. Raynor, Adam R. Tower and Amanda J. Tower, and four great-grandchildren, Michael A. and Breanna L. Kearns, Tayler L. Rayner and Jared R. DiNicola.

She was predeceased by sister, Muriel Dapper.
