Edward W. Menesky

Edward W. Menesky, 86, of Devonshire Estates, Lenox, formerly of 106 East Housatonic Ave., died Wednesday morning at Berkshire Medical Center.
Born in Pittsfield on Sept. 13, 1918, son of Antoni and Feliksa Chrzanowski Menesky, he was a 1936 graduate of St. Joseph's High School, where he lettered in football, baseball and basketball.
An Army veteran of World War II, he served from 1944 to 1946 with the 1463rd Service Command Unit Station medics and received recognition as a marksman.
Mr. Menesky was employed by GE as a plumber and steam fitter in the power transformer department, retiring in 1981 after 42 years of service.
He was a communicant of Holy Family Church.
He was a member of the GE Quarter Century and Pensioners' clubs and a former member of the Polish Falcons, GE Athletic Association and Pontoosuc Lake Country Club.
He was an avid golfer and enjoyed fishing and traveling. In earlier years, he played semi-pro baseball as a catcher with the Pittsfield Electrics. He was a lifelong Red Sox fan.
His wife, the former Bronislawa "Bertha" Wilk, whom he married Sept. 21, 1940, at Holy Family Church, died Nov. 14, 2003.
He leaves two sons, David A. Miers of Galway, N.Y., and Thomas T. Mierzejewski of Lanesboro; five grandchildren, and a great-grandson.
FUNERAL NOTICE -- A memorial Mass for the family and friends of Edward W. Menesky, who died March 9, 2005, will be held at Holy Family Church in the spring, with inurnment of his ashes to be in St. Michael the Archangel Mausoleum at St. Joseph's Cemetery.
There will be no calling hours. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Berkshire Medical Center Cancer Research Fund in care of DERY FUNERAL HOME, 54 Bradford St., Pittsfield.
Mr. Menesky, affectionately known as the family "cookie monster" and who loved his dog "Pickles," also leaves his daughter-in-law, Anne Henneberry Miers, his five grandchildren, David W., Jeffrey W. and his wife Kim, and Thomas, Michael and Terri, and his great-grandson, Declan English Miers.
He was predeceased by a brother and a sister.
