Antonio DiPrimio

Antonio DiPrimio, 91, of 161 Newell St. died Monday at Berkshire Medical Center.

Born in Turrivalignani, province of Pescara, Italy, on Sept. 18, 1913, son of Gaetano and Rose Gardinale DiPrimio, he attended schools there.

He came to the United States in 1956, settling in Pittsfield, and became a citizen in 1963.

He served in the Italian army during World War II.

Mr. DiPrimio was employed for 13 years as a groundsman for the former Berkshire County Savings Bank, now Berkshire Bank, at its three branches in Pittsfield. He retired in 1989. Prior to that, he had worked as a maintenance man for A.H. Rice Corp. for 11 years.

He was a communicant of Mount Carmel Church.

He enjoyed gardening, making wine, raising rabbits and pigeons, and hunting.

He and his wife, the former Lucia Mancini, were married Nov. 14, 1935, in Italy.

Besides his wife, he leaves a daughter, Adelia Pellegrini of Pittsfield, four grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. A son, Dorino DiPrimio, died Aug. 3, 1958, in Italy.

FUNERAL NOTICE -- Services for Antonio DiPrimio, who died March 7, 2005, will be Friday at 9:15 from DERY FUNERAL HOME, followed by a Liturgy of Christian Burial at 10 at Mount Carmel Church, celebrated by the Rev. Geoffrey Deeker, CSS, pastor. Burial will follow in St. Joseph's Cemetery. Calling hours will be Thursday from 4 to 7 at the funeral home.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the American Cancer Society or to Mount Carmel Church, both in care of the funeral home, 54 Bradford St.

He is lovingly survived by his four grandchildren, Angelo and Carlo Pellegrini, Dorina El Saddik and Cynthia Pellegrini, and by his six great-grandchildren, Michael and Kassandra Spiller, Nicholas and Rachel Pellegrini, Samantha and Zachary El Saddik; his son-in-law, Antonio Pellegrini, and by several nieces and nephews, including Dante DiPrimio.

He was predeceased by six brothers, Giuseppe, Fagostino, Luigi and Donato DiPrimio and Camillo and Giovanni DeLuca, and by four sisters, Concetta Troiano, Santa DeLuca, Lucia and Celestina DiPrimio.
